Goodman Hall

When it was constructed in 1965, Goodman Library was heralded by city leaders as “the most beautiful building in Marion.” Until its near-complete renovation 37 years later, the facility served as IWU’s library, holding over 110,000 volumes, 675 serial titles, and the university media center. Then in 2003, Goodman got a new look, a new layout, and a new name. Since then, Goodman Hall has housed the Division of Education and the Division of Modern Languages, Literature, and Communication, as well as comfortable lounge and study areas, modern classrooms, and the IWU Writing Center.

The Division of Education is IWU’s largest academic division, providing students with degrees in primary, secondary, and special education.

The Division of Modern Languages, Literature, and Communication offers classes in English, Modern Languages, Writing, Literature, and Communication Arts.

The Writing Center makes a variety of services available to the entire IWU community. Its two computer labs are equipped with thirty work stations each, and they offer reading and writing software for computer-assisted instruction, Microsoft Word programs, scanners, printers, and Internet and e-mail access. When classes are in session, the Writing Center is open for student use from early morning to late evening. In addition, lab assistants are on hand throughout the year to assist students with written assignments as well as to provide tutoring sessions and writing consultations.

An IWU Namesake:

Goodman Hall was named in honor of the late Dr. Woodrow I. Goodman. Dr. Goodman served as President of Indiana Wesleyan from 1960 to 1976, during its years as “Marion College.”
