IWU Health Center -- Frequently Asked Questions

You do not need an appointment to be seen by an RN. Walk-ins are taken on a first come, first serve basis except for emergencies. You DO need to schedule an appointment to see the Nurse Practitioner.


If you live on campus you should contact your Resident Director or Campus Police (extension 4911). You may go to the emergency room at Marion General Hospital.


As long as your physical is no more than a year old by August 15th of the current school year.


2 MMR's and a current Tetanus (within 10 years). Meningitis and Hepatitis B series are strongly recommended.


We do not perform x-rays in the Health Center. The Nurse Practitioner can supply the necessary requisition to have x-rays taken at Marion General Hospital or Progressive Medical Imaging. The Health Center can do lab work ordered by our Nurse Practitioner or your family physician.


We have many over-the-counter medications the RN's may dispense, some free and some at a nominal cost. We also have antibiotics and other prescription medications the Nurse Practitioner may prescribe at a low cost. We cannot fill prescriptions from other physicians.


IWU does not charge a Student fee for health services. You are only charged for the services used. If you are covered by health insurance we do bill your insurance.


Yes, with a physician's order. We give injections by appointment only. See services available.


An office visit ranges from $35 to $55 depending on the level of service provided. Additional cost could be added for lab test such as rapid mono, rapid strep or blood work. We bill health insurance if available. Copays and medication cost will be due at time of service. We accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa or Discover credit cards.
