NOTE – For a complete application process list, print the worksheet “Global Studies Application Process-Full Instructions” listed at right. The list below is for general purposes only, and does not have some of the detail you will need to help you complete your application.

Application Process:

• Review the programs that are available with your Academic Advisor.
• Print out the full Application Process worksheet for referral (listed at right).
• Visit the Global Studies office and declare your intention, or write globalstudies@indwes.edu.
• Begin the application process with the selected program
  • Note their deadlines and requirements – these can be different than IWU’s requirements and can require that you have begun the IWU application process.
• Complete the IWU Global Studies application (both Pgs. 1 & 2) and pay the application fee at the Business Office (be sure that “Academic Trip” is indicated in the specification “Type”).
  • Spring study deadline: October 30
  • Fall study deadline: March 30
• Apply for a passport, if necessary.

After IWU acceptance

• Submit a letter of intent to the Global Studies office.
• Talk to Financial Aid about your awards..
• Work with the Records Office to register for your program classes before your departure.
• Talk to the Business Office to discuss how you will pay for your semester abroad.
• Review health & safety issues, packing & travel issues, and the state department’s site about cultural and social customs and laws of the country you will be visiting. Watch the IWU “Safe Passage” video online.

During your semester abroad:

• Register with the local US Embassy, if applicable. Note: some programs will do this for you.
• Register for you next semester by email – including room & board!

After your return from your semester abroad:

• Take IWU’s “Post-Trip Questionnaire,” available from the “Off-Campus Activities” site.
• Contact the Global Studies office with any information you feel would be helpful!
• Consider helping the Global Studies office with semester abroad recruitment.
