CLEP
The College-Level Examination Program® or CLEP provides
students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate
college-level achievement through a program of exams in
undergraduate college courses. Students wishing to take a CLEP
exam need to first meet with Jana Taylor in the Records Office
(765-677-2166) to obtain approval for the test as well as the
proper paperwork. Students will then bring this paperwork to
The Aldersgate Center to schedule the exam. The Aldersgate
Center offers CLEP exams M-F at 8:30am and 2:00pm. CLEP exams
are 90 minutes in length. Students may check out CLEP study

Cost: $87.00 ($15.00 registration fee plus $72.00 exam fee)
Math Competency (COMPASS)
The Math Competency test (also called COMPASS test) is a
computer-based multiple-choice test that evaluates students’
ability levels in up to five subject areas: Pre-Algebra,
Algebra, College Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
IWU requires all incoming freshmen to take the Math Competency
test at registration to determine math placement. Students may
take this test twice before their junior year. The Aldersgate
Center offers the Math Competency test twice in the fall and
twice in the spring. A poster will be hung in the Student
Center Commons two weeks before the test is offered. Students
will need to sign up in The Aldersgate Center for the exact
test date and time. This is an untimed test, but generally
does not last longer than an hour. There is no fee for

MAT
The MAT is an analogy-based test used as an entrance exam
into advanced degree programs. www.milleranalogies.com

Institutional SAT
The SAT Reasoning Test is a measure of the critical thinking
skills you'll need for academic success in college. The
SAT assesses how well you analyze and solve problems—skills
you learned in school that you'll need in college. The
institutional SAT is the same as the national SAT except

National Standardized Tests
The following tests are given on the IWU campus on the
national test dates. Contact the national sites for registration
and any questions.
ACT
The ACT assesses high school students' general
educational development and their ability to complete
college-level work. IWU is a national test site, but you
must register with ACT to take the exam. http://www.actstudent.org
Praxis
The Praxis Series: A series of tests for educational professionals
required by state education departments for credentials
and licensure in teaching and administration for K-12
schooling. Information regarding specific tests, dates,
testing locations, registration, fees, etc, may be found
