Vanetta Bratcher
(B.A., Seattle Pacific University; M.A., U of Tennessee at Chattanooga) is the Director of The Aldersgate Center, where professional staff provide student services for the development of holistic well-being for IWU’s traditional, undergraduate students. These various services include academic enrichment, clinical counseling, disability services, testing, study skills, and the TRiO Scholars Program. In addition to her supervisory role, her duties include advising students for college success and collaborating for university retention programming. She teaches in the department of Modern Languages and Literature and for the first-year World Changer’s program. Vanetta came to the University in 2003 from Lee University, Cleveland, TN where she was a faculty member in the Department of English and Modern Foreign Languages. She also served as the Director of Academic Services administering the University’s academic policies for student persistence. Her special interests include holistic student development, First Year Experience, probation and early alert support, academic advising, and student success. Having also worked in the publishing industry, she has an ongoing interest in editorial work. She is a member of National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), Modern Language Association (MLA), and Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.

Scott Erny (B.A., Asbury College; M.S. University of Kentucky) is the Coordinator of Clinical Counseling. He is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). Scott provides leadership for the Clinical Counseling team in The Aldersgate Center. He enjoys working with individuals and couples to address a variety of mental health and relational concerns. He also leads workshops on a variety of topics throughout the campus community. Scott has served IWU since 1996 in various capacities, including overseeing career services and academic support services and coordinating on-campus employment. Jennie Conrad
(B.S., Indiana Wesleyan University; M.A., Indiana Wesleyan University) is a Clinical Counselor and the Assistant Coordinator of Clinical Counseling in The Aldersgate Center. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS). She is also a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP). Jennie has worked at Indiana Wesleyan University since August of 2000 providing individual and couples counseling. She has lead an eating disorder group, and has conducted a variety of workshops and presentations on mental health issues (specifically eating disorders). She has taught a variety of courses including Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Psychology seminar classes. Leann Martens
(B.S., Iowa State University, M.A., Trinity International University) is a Clinical Counselor. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). Prior to coming to IWU, she worked for almost three years as a counselor at the Wabash Friends Counseling Center. In addition, she has worked in residential child care with teenagers and their families and also as a Behavioral Clinician with Developmentally Disabled Adults. Her areas of professional interest include sexual abuse recovery, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues including divorce, marriage and family. Brandon Bugos
(B.S., Greenville College; M.A., Indiana Wesleyan University) is a Clinical Counselor in The Aldersgate Center. Previously, Brandon served as a Residence Hall Director, adjunct teacher, and graduate counseling intern at IWU. He also has experience working with college students in church and para-church ministries. He is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and currently working towards licensure in Indiana. His areas of professional interest include spiritual formation/identity, depression, anxiety, anger management, interpersonal relationships, and issues associated with pornography use. Nathan Herring
(B.A., Taylor University; M.A., Ball State University) has been employed at Indiana Wesleyan University since 2004 and serves as the Disability Services Coordinator and works with the TRiO Scholars Program. Previous employment related to his current position was as a case manager at Grant-Blackford Mental Health, Inc. He filled this position for 6 years. Nathan is a lifelong resident of the Marion, IN community. His role at Indiana Wesleyan is divided into two parts. He is responsible for addressing student requests for academic and physical accommodations within the university. This includes meeting with the students, reviewing their documentation, and determining suggestions for reasonable accommodations. He is also responsible for helping the students coordinate with their respective faculty members to implement the accommodation plan. The other 50% of Nathan’s role is to serve as an academic counselor. In this role he provides academic training and support for students seeking guidance in areas such as time management, organizational skills, as well as study and test taking strategies. He also provides clinical counseling for some students in the TRiO Scholars program. His professional memberships include: The Association of Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD), The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), The Learning Disability Association of America (LDA), and The National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Karen Newhard
(B.S., Grace College) is the Coordinator of the TRiO Scholars Program. Prior to coming to The Aldersgate Center, Karen worked at Tabor College as the Director of Student Success and Retention. She led the Retention Committee and guided the four strategy champions on the colleges retention initiatives set up by Noel Levitz. The Retention Initiatives focused on the Early Alert Warning System, Student Engagement, Sophomore Surge and Diversity. Karen worked at Ivy Tech Community College as the Director of Student Life where she designed and developed a comprehensive student life program for a campus with 7,000 students. She also worked as a Resident Director in Shatford House at IWU. Karen is passionate about supporting students in order to see them succeed academically, socially and spiritually. Nan Turner
Nan is the Office Manager. She has been employed at IWU since 2001. Prior to coming to IWU, she worked for SCM Office Supplies and Lakeview Christian School. Nan manages the front office, works with the entire campus population to serve students, schedules appointments, assists with the TRiO Scholars Program, and administrative details for Aldersgate services and programs. She is often the first person one meets in The Aldersgate Center and greatly adds to The Center’s atmosphere of care and professionalism. Her e-mail address is nan.turner@indwes.edu.
Beth Stout
(B.A., Ball State University) is the Office Assistant. She began working in The Aldersgate Center in February 2009. Prior to working at Indiana Wesleyan University, she was a stay-at-home mom. Before her son was born, she was an Administrative Assistant at Moorehead Communications, Inc. for 4 years as well as teaching in a public school. Beth works at the front desk of The Aldersgate Center answering phones, scheduling appointments, and assists with The Center’s Disability Services. Her e-mail address is beth.stout@indwes.edu.
