Accommodations at Indiana Wesleyan University
Any request
for accommodations will be considered. In order for an accommodation
to be granted, it must be
supported by the documentation provided and it must be deemed as reasonable.
Reasonable means that it meets the specific need of the student,
does not present an undo financial burden to the university,
and does not alter a core component of a class or academic curriculum
of the university.
Below are some examples of potential accommodations at the post-secondary
level. This list is not exhaustive and all accommodations are
determined on an individual basis using the student’s
request and supporting documentation.
In-Class Accommodations
- Permission to tape lectures
- Preferential seating
- Extended due dates on assignments
- Alternate assignments
- Note takers
- Assistive technology for hearing or visual disabilities>
- Use of word processor or spell checker for in-class assignments
Out of Class Accommodations
- Early registration
- Books on tape, e-text, or other alternate format
- Lectures on video tape
- Access to computers
- Access to assistive technology and programs such as Kurzweil Reader and Window-Eyes
Testing
- Untimed/Extended time
- Alternate answer recording formats
– Oral exams, scribes, written answer instead of Scantron,
use of word processor or spell checker for essay exams.
- Tests read to tape
- Use of aids – dictionary, calculator
Housing
- Single room
- First floor room
- Room near fire escape/lobby
- Room with individual bathroom
- ADA accessible room
