Student Center
Between 2000 and the present, Indiana Wesleyan has commenced a two-phase, $24.8 million extension and renovation of its Student Center. Phase one, completed in 2001, saw the addition of 44,000 square feet of space as well as a near-total makeover on the structure. Phase two, completed in the fall of 2006, offers students an additional 66,000 square feet, including a food court with piazza seating, student enterprise zones, and fully-renovated dining areas. Both of these projects were undertaken with IWU's campus life as the top consideration-giving students more space for community, added daily conveniences, and more opportunities to interact with the world around them. The end result of these projects is a structure that's one of the finest of its kind in the nation-a bustling, modern, thriving place that is truly the center of IWU student life.
For practical purposes, the Student Center can be divided into four main areas, the Mall, the Commons, the South Wing, and Upstairs Offices and Services:
THE MALL: CULTURE, COMMUNICATION, COFFEE, AND CHOW
At the heart of the Student Center is a 280-foot mall running the length of the facility. Covered by a glass roof 44 feet above, this wide corridor has the feel of an outdoor plaza, complete with a slate walkway, café tables, and park benches. Rooms and university offices lining the mall are arranged like shop fronts, adding extra ambiance to the lively space. Of special interest are several key locations along the mall-the Center for Life Calling and Leadership, the Globe Theater, McConn Coffee Company, Teter Café, and the IWU Bookstore:
Baldwin Dining Center, IWU's all-you-can-eat dining area, seats up to 1,100 students and serves 23 meals each week during the academic year. Staffed by Pioneer College Caterers, Baldwin's kitchen offers a wide variety of choices at each meal, including a main entrée and side items, a specialty bar, health food options, a well-stocked salad bar, a pizza bar, grill food, cereals, and desserts. With the exception of cereals and pizza, each of these selections changes daily, providing students with an array of alternatives for their on-campus diet and nutrition. Several times during the year, Baldwin hosts theme nights and special events, including the popular "Battle of the Chefs." The facility is named in honor of Russel S. Baldwin-"Mr. B."-a former IWU treasurer who was well known and much loved around campus.

McConn Coffee Company is located at the main intersection of the Student Center mall. A specialty coffee shop, McConn is staffed by IWU students and allows purchases to be made via student meal plans. Offering good music and a cozy fireplace area as well as couch- and café-style seating, the Coffee Company is one of the busiest spots on campus. It's named after McConn Hall, an old church building on campus that played home to a small coffee shop, old couches, and live music. Before it was razed in 2001, two stained glass windows were removed from McConn Hall; they now hang behind the counter at the Coffee Company.
Teter Caféis the elevated seating area in Baldwin Dining Center that borders the Student Center mall. With its vintage décor and comfortable booth seating, the Café is a popular dining spot for students. Named after Teter Hall, which for 96 years served as the primary building for student life, it's fitting that the Café is decorated with memorabilia from IWU's days as Marion College. On the walls, windows, and ceilings, diners will enjoy old photos of athletic teams, campus signs, stained glass windows, trophies, and even a canoe from the university's early days.
Wildcat Express offers quick meals for students on the run. Offering sandwiches, soups, pizza, pasta, grinders, a grilled-to-order line, a Mexican bar, an Asian bar, a smoothie stand, and various other side items, Wildcat Express is open nearly all day long-and because it's staffed by Pioneer College Caterers, all menu items can be purchased by students on an available meal conversion plan. As part of a 2006 remodeling project, "Wildcat" was moved to the new European-style food court area on the east side of the Student Center. Complete with storefronts, floor-to-ceiling windows, interior trees, a fountain, and expanded seating, it's the perfect place for a quick meal and conversation with friends.

The Globe Theater is a 198-seat auditorium used for presentations, lectures, shows, and productions. With its own box office, marquee, and snack shop, the Globe also offers late-night movie showings almost every weekend. IWU students love this for many reasons, but mostly because the films are current, the walk is short, and the price is cheap.
The IWU Bookstore is a two-story shop family operated by Tree of Life, Inc., which is owned and operated by six IWU alumni. On the main floor of the bookstore, students and guests can shop for school supplies, books, music, and IWU apparel and merchandise. The second floor contains textbooks for IWU classes, competitively priced and conveniently organized by class section and professor.

The 1920 Art Gallery is a student enterprise zone providing IWU art students with a place to display and even sell their work. Run by an interim curator, it allows for experiential learning in collaboration with the Art Department.
IWU.BIZ is a double storefront in the mall where students can compete to start up a business.
The Post Office supplies 4,000 student mailboxes and provides a full array of mailing services, including Express and Priority Mail through the United States Postal Service.
The Internet Café offers quick online access to residents between classes or to commuters on campus. For student convenience, several computers line the west wall of the south wing.
The Student Center Mall also features an Information Desk, an ATM machine, and the Campus Police office.
THE COMMONS: RECREATION, RELAXATION, REPORTING, AND RETAIL
Located just off the Student Center mall is a two-story Commons area offering table seating as well as access to Baldwin Dining Center, Wildcat Express, and the IWU Game Room
The Etiquette Dining Room
The Convenience Store
The Commuter Lounge
The Daily Planet is a news center complete with e-mail stations, daily newspaper delivery, and a large LCD TV to display recent world happenings. Located just off the Mall, it's a great place for students to get their fix of information between classes.
The Game Room provides recreational space for students and guests. With ping pong tables, pool tables, board games, couches and chairs, and a large flat panel TV with viewing area, the game room is an ideal place for study breaks and friendly competitions.
SECOND LEVEL OFFICES: FORMS, FOUNDATIONS, FUTURE, FAITH, AND FEVERS
On the second floor of the Student Center, numerous campus offices are available to serve IWU students. These include the Health Center, The Aldersgate Center, Student Development, and the Business, Records, and Financial Aid Offices.
The Center for Life Calling and Leadership
Highly influential in academic and personal development at IWU are two cornerstones: life calling and servant leadership. At the Center for Life Calling and Leadership (CLCL), students can identify and develop the unique purpose God designed them for-their life calling. They also learn to apply the principles of service in leadership-changing the world by caring for others. The CLCL is a transforming, innovative program that is getting national recognition, even helping to earn IWU a place among founding members of the "Foundations of Excellence in the First College Year" program. One of only twelve private colleges selected for this program, IWU is sharing its emphasis on life calling and leadership in the development of programs and standards that will be adopted by many universities across the nation.

In addition, it offers many valuable services onsite, including allergy shots, urinalysis, diagnostic blood work, and Rapid Mono and Rapid Strep tests. The Health Center facility has a comfortable waiting room and reception area, an observation room, exam rooms, and labs.

The Aldersgate Center draws together the curricular and co-curricular dimensions of IWU's Christian approach to higher education. Named after the place where, in 1738, John Wesley's greatest anxieties came to find peace and rest in God, the Center coordinates programs which integrate Christian ideals and virtues in pursuit of the education of the whole person. It offers a wide variety of educational and clinical services, including academic study skills assessments and workshops, tutorial assistance, clinical counseling, disability services, testing services, and the TRIO scholars program (for first-generation, low-income, and disabled individuals.) With its talented staff including clinical counselors and others, Aldersgate aids in bringing together the disparate elements of a student's life in order to form an integrated whole.

The Student Development Office is the first stop for students who are interested in joining campus organizations and activities. It houses Residence Life professional staff, mentoring activities, and a student leadership resource lab. It's also the place where a student should go when they want to buy a parking permit.
The Business Office manages accounts for traditional students, including accepting tuition payments, arranging for payment of outstanding balances via on-campus employment and/or Academic Management Services, offering check cashing and cash disbursements, supervising Room and Board Freeze, and providing book vouchers for eligible students.
