Bowman House

Bowman House is Indiana Wesleyan’s all-freshmen residence hall for men. With a strong emphasis on community, it offers a lively, energetic, supportive atmosphere for men at IWU. The 108 students who call Bowman “home” have an understanding that theirs is a brotherhood, with regular opportunities to interact as a group. From mud football games and “After-hours Dodgeball” tournaments to missions trips and spiritual retreats, Bowman residents have a built-in activities calendar designed to shape individual character and House dynamics.

The brotherhood at Bowman is led by a group of men, including the live-in Resident Director (RD) and one live-in upperclassman Resident Assistant (RA) per unit. This leadership team builds relationships with Bowman residents in many ways—from getting involved in routine aspects of students’ lives to offering weekly Bible studies to planning activities throughout the year. One of those activities, the annual Bowman House Retreat, takes place at Ketcham Woods (7 miles from the university), during the first two weeks of classes each fall, and is always a highlight of the year.

Originally built in 1968, Bowman House was fully renovated in 2003. Resident rooms are arranged in suites—two rooms sharing a bathroom between them. With two students assigned to each room, there are four students per suite. Each room in the House is carpeted, furnished, and has individualized heating and air conditioning controls. Each one is also wired for high-speed Internet access, with an optional cable TV connection too. Bowman House has laundry facilities on each floor, as well as a computer lab, a chapel, and a kitchen for student use. Off the lobby, there’s also a TV room for study breaks and a front desk with a mini-store for late-night snacks.

An IWU Namesake:

Bowman House is named in memory of the late Dr. Allen Bowman, a history professor who served at Indiana Wesleyan for 53 years, from 1931 to 1984.
