Athletic Complex
Covering 65 acres, IWU’s Athletic Complex includes three soccer fields (one game field
and two practice fields), two softball fields (one game and one practice), two baseball fields
(one game and one practice), and a facility dedicated solely to Track and Field. In addition,
IWU’s men’s and women’s Cross Country teams have their home course laid out
on the outdoor complex. All the main competition facilities are fully lighted for nighttime
use, including one area reserved for the university’s Intramural Program. For the comfort
and enjoyment of our athletes and guests, the IWU Athletic Complex has several ponds, ample
parking, refreshment areas, and restrooms.
Unique to the Track and Field facility is a “Mondo” track surface, the same type
used for the last eight Summer Olympic Competitions. This surface allows for more energy return
and lasts longer due to a special durability in track composition. Because of excellent
facilities like these, IWU is frequently asked to host site national competitions at the
Athletic Complex. NCCAA Nationals at IWU have been hosted by Track and Field five times and by
Softball six times.
In December of 2006, IWU opened a brand new indoor practice facility that is used primarily by our Varsity spring sports programs, Baseball, Softball, Tennis, and Track and Field. This facility includes a full 200-meter track with eight sprint lanes, adding a new dimension to IWU’s spring sports programs and giving them ample space for practices and competition throughout the winter months.
