Who can help me?
The resident assistant (RA) is a specially trained student who is available to help you get acquainted with the university and to assist you with your life on campus. The RA lives in the housing unit with the residents, and serves as a friend and leader for the residents. The RA plans monthly events for the residents in his/her unit (housing are consisting of approximately 20 people) and helps coordinate activities such as unit devotions and community outreaches.

What about my spiritual growth?
Each residence facility has a resident chaplain (RC), who along with the RA, develops opportunities for spiritual growth and ministry outreach.

How do I receive a room?
After you have submitted your $100 tuition deposit and if you plan to live on campus (see IWU Residency Policy), you will receive instructions about completing an on-line housing application. Room assignments are based on the date in which you submit your tuition deposit.. The residence life office makes every attempt to honor all special requests for roommate and residence facilities, but we are unable to honor all requests. Applications can be edited and changed through mid-July without affecting the original submission date. In general, the earlier you submit your tuition deposit, the better the chance of your requests being met.

How do I get to know my roommate if we've never met?
When you arrive on campus, move in, but save equal space for your roommate. Do an activity together within the first day or so after your arrival. Roommates don't have to have similar interests in order to get along. Having a good relationship with your roommate requires honesty, tolerance for differences and open communication.

What should I bring with me?
Although you should not move your entire room from home into your new home, there are some things you will want to bring with you:

Bed linens (extra-long twin)
Hangers
Pillows
Desk supplies
Towels
Alarm clock
Toiletries
Fan
Laundry supplies
Desk lamps

The use of electrical appliances is limited because of sanitation, safety and circuit overload. No microwaves, open-coiled appliances, hot plates, toasters, electrical fry pans, crock pots, sunlamps, or infrared lights are to be used in the students' rooms. Students can use UL approved popcorn poppers, hair dryers, curling irons, clothes irons, etc. Students can bring a small refrigerator, no larger than 4.0 cubic feet in size. Micro-refrigerators are not permitted.

When can I have guests?
Each residence hall and apartment sets at least one night a week set aside for open house. During open house members of the opposite gender can visit students' rooms. All students are expected to conduct themselves with discretion and respect the rights of others. They must be careful to maintain a biblical standard of morality and be sensitive to community standards of good taste and decency.

Can I decorate my room?
Room personalization and decorating is encouraged. The following guidelines must be observed:

Students are not permitted to use nails or tacks anywhere in their rooms (except bulletin boards). White putty (or "Plasti Tak") is the only material that can be used for hanging. Other adhesives, such as tape, picture hangers, decals, etc. may not be used because of the potential damage to most surfaces.

Where do I eat?
The resident dining room is located in the Student Center. All resident students have a meal plan which is accessed by your student ID. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served Monday through Friday; brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Commuters may also dine in the resident dining room by paying at the door or by using a commuter meal plan.
The Wildcat Express also located in the Student Center, is our mini food court which features the Block and Barrel Sub Shop, Firehouse Grill, a Mexican option, an Italian option, an ice cream area, lots of snack items, beverages, and fresh baked cookies and pastries. Residents may use their meal card or purchase items; commuters may purchase items or use a Commuter meal plan.

What is there to do?
Each hall's Events Coordinator and their staff is very active in planning innovative and "creative" activities that let you have fun while developing lifelong friendships. These events give you the chance to get to know the other people in the hall. The kick-off event for all the residence halls is Residence Life Week. This is a week of fun games and enoyable activities for all resident students, so plan to stay on campus! In addition, the Student Activites Council (SAC) plans and coordinates campus-wide activities such as SAC Weekend, Homecoming, Rebash, Family Weekend, Ski Trips and Spotted Cow Weekend. Intramural sports and Student Organizations are other ways to enhance your college experience, so plan to get involved!
