Paying Your Expenses
As a part of the application process you are required to demonstrate your ability to pay for tuition, room, board, and books. This amounts to approximately $28,600 U.S. dollars for the 2009-2010 academic year (two semesters). Additionally you will need $3,000-$4,000 for medical insurance, transportation and personal expenses.

Please remember that May session and Summer sessions will require additional funds for tuition, housing, food, books, and personal expenses.

All international students are eligible to apply to work and earn up to 20 hours each week on campus, but U.S. Immigration prohibits non-U.S. citizens from working outside the university. Most campus jobs start at $7.25 per hour, and most students work only 10 hours each week. The financial aid office estimates that employed students earn about $1,800 U.S. during the school year.

transfering Money
There are two ways to send money:
1. You can send an international money order or foreign draft directly to IWU.

2. You can have your bank send the funds to IWU in care of a U.S. bank by mail or remittance. The receiving bank will notify IWU or deposit the funds to the university's account.

It is advisable when sending funds by mail to use registered mail, since this is a more secure system. undergraduatehiers checks and personal checks from outside the U.S. cannot be immediately processed. All funds received must be in U.S. currency.

Buying Insurance
Medical care in the U.S. is very expensive. Since the University has no way of covering unexpected medical expenses, every International Student is required to have medical insurance valid in the U.S. If you have medical insurance in your home country, you must provide documentation to IWU. If you do not already have it, you will need to send $500.00 U.S. to have on your account to purchase medical insurance upon arrival to campus. Be prepared to spend $500-$600 per year. The International Student Advisor can provide information about various medical insurance companies.  Go back to menu

Getting Your Visa
Once you have received your acceptance letter, you will need to send a) a deposit equivalent to the first semester's tuition, room and board; b) $1,000 U.S. emergency/travel deposit; c) a certified bank statement of your ability to pay for expenses for the duration of your studies; d) documentation to show that you have medical insurance in the U.S. or $500.00 U.S. on your account at IWU to buy medical insurance. The emergency/travel deposit is held for the full duration of your enrollment and is available to you in the event of an emergency. If unused it will be returned to you when you are preparing for your permanent return home, as long as your Indiana Wesleyan University account balance is zero.

When IWU has received your emergency deposit, tuition/room/board deposit, and medical insurance proof or $500.00, the university will send the Immigration I-20 form. Go to an American Embassy or Consulate. Take all of your original academic documents, your financial statements, your letter of acceptance, and your I-20 form. The visa officer will evaluate your records, your ability to succeed in the U.S. educational system, and your intention to return to your home country.

Living On Campus
All students under 23 years of age are required to live in a residence hall located on campus. All rooms are shared, usually by two people. Rooms are furnished; each person has a single bed, a dresser, a study desk, and closet space. Students must supply their own linens, blankets, pillows, and towels. If you are bringing sheets/bed linens, they should be at least 80 inches/203.2 centimeters in length. Each room has easy access to showers, laundry and kitchen facilities. Meals are served in the cafeteria three times each day. A snack and fountain service is available in the Student Center.
