Biannual Division Lecture Series
The Division of Social Science sponsors two annual division lecture series in which reputable social science scholars and professionals present lecture series on campus for the entire university community. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to attend the lectures and join in stimulating discussion of the vital issues of our day. The responsibility for the series rotates between the two departments: Economics and History & Political Science. The division occasionally joins with the Division of Business in sponsoring a lecturer.
The Fall Social Science Lecture Series was initiated by the division chair in 1973. Lecturers have included the Honorable Colin Jackson, Member of the English Parliament (1973), Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, author and Counsel for the U.S. House Appropriation Committee (1975), Dr. Marvin Olasky, author, professor, and journalist (1982), Dr. Russell Kirk, author, lecturer (1987), Dr. David Aikman, senior foreign correspondent for Time Magazine (1993), and Professor Tom Rose, founder of American Enterprise Publications (2002).
In 1977, the chair also initiated a Spring series, the Spring Bowman Lecture Series, named in honor of Dr. Allen Bowman. Lecturers for this series have included Dr. Gordon Clark, philosopher and author (1977), Rev. John M. Perkins, author and founder of Voice of Calvary Ministries (1982), Dr. Herbert Schlossberg, author and lecturer (1986), Dr. Rabi R. Maharaj, former Hindu guru and founder of East-West Gospel Ministries (1989), and Dr. Richard Chewning, professor of Christian ethics (Baylor University) and author of numerous books including Business Through the Eyes of Faith (2003).
