Homecoming Oct. 5 - 7, 2006
Symposium Program:
DETAILS HERE
The Division of Social Sciences* welcomes all alumni and friends to this year’s homecoming (Oct. 5 - 7), in which our division will be highlighted. Throughout homecoming, our division will be hosting and participating in numerous events. (If you are not an official alumnus, but would like to attend, you are welcome. Contact the division secretary Linda MacKay if you have questions.)
On Thursday, for those interested in thinking and working toward reformation, we are hosting a Faith Integration Symposium in honor of the late Dr. Glenn Martin. Plans are to feature those who were awarded Allen Bowman History & Political Science scholarships as students, hear paper presentations, and consider papers written by these and other division alumni on various topics (Thursday, Oct. 5, from 3:30 - 5:30 and 6:30 - 8:30 pm, into the evening). If you are interested in writing a paper, see the Call for Papers. (A group of alumni will honor the top symposium paper(s) with a $200 award.) A book by Dr. Martin will also be available at the symposium.
On Friday morning, Rev. Steve DeNeff, the Senior Pastor at College Wesleyan Church will speak in chapel. That afternoon, at 1:30, we will all be celebrating the inauguration of the new president.
On Friday evening, division alumni and friends are welcome to connect (no cost) with other division friends at a brief Meet and Greet at McConn Coffee Company in the Student Center (Friday, Oct. 6, 5:30 - 6:00 PM). Following this, you can sit with friends during the Alumni Banquet in which our division will be highlighted, and during which the classes of 1956 and 1981 will receive their 50th and 25th reunion honors. The banquet begins at 6:00 pm.
On Saturday morning, please plan to come (and bring your spouse and other family members and friends) to the Social Sciences Division Brunch featuring highlights from each of our division’s departments and the opportunity to meet President and Mrs. Henry Smith (Saturday, Oct. 7, 10:00 - 11:30 AM, Student Banquet Rooms.
Later, on Saturday afternoon, join us for an alumni-sponsored, informal open house Gathering in Honor of Dr. Glenn Martin. Mrs. Betty Martin and family members will be there along with former students to share memories and fellowship together (Saturday afternoon, Oct. 7, time and place TBA).
Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can assist you in your plans as you consider or arrange to join us for these events. We look forward to seeing you! Also, PLEASE SEND US A PHOTO for our slideshow AND AN UPDATE about your life and work.
A form is posted online for this and, if you check the box at the end
of the form, your information will be posted on our new division web board for alumni and friends.
(You can check out the Web Forum for Division Alumni and Friends link on left of page in the Navigation column).
You are not required to have your information displayed on the web forum, but it would be greatly appreciated.
You contact us to have your entry on the web forum deleted at any time.
*NOTE: In 2001, when the university was restructured, Business became a separate division and Social Work was shifted to the division of Behavioral Sciences. Economics stayed in Social Sciences.
