Scott Burson
Assistant Professor of Religion

Scott is in his first year as a full-time faculty member at Indiana Wesleyan University, but he is no stranger to the IWU community. During the past six years, he served as the university’s Assistant Vice President for Marketing. While working in administration, Scott taught several sections of PHL 180, UNV 180 and an Apologetics course in IWU’s College of Adult and Professional Studies. As Instructor of Religion, Scott will teach courses in Philosophy and Theology, and will serve as the Coordinator for the Sports Ministry major.

Scott holds the Bachelor of Science degree in Communications (Public Relations emphasis) from the University of Rio Grande and the Master of Arts degree in Theological Studies (Philosophy of Religion emphasis) from Asbury Theological Seminary. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. at the London School of Theology.

Prior to IWU, Scott was the Executive Director of Communications at Asbury Seminary. While at Asbury, Scott co-authored C.S. Lewis and Francis Schaeffer: Lessons for a New Century from the Most Influential Apologists of Our Time (InterVarsity Press, 1998) and served as managing editor of The Asbury Herald and Asbury Theological Journal. Scott has published more than 30 articles in a wide variety of periodicals and is a member of the International Society of Theta Phi, an honor society for theological students, scholars in the field of religion, and outstanding religious leaders. In 2000, Asbury honored Scott with the Senior Award for Excellence in Christian Philosophy.

Anyone who knows Scott realizes he is an avid sports fan. He played basketball in college, becoming the first player in school history to be nominated for Academic All-America honors. He worked several years in the Sports Information field at the University of Rio Grande and at the University of Florida. Scott also managed a sports publishing company, where he directed the production of souvenir programs for major sporting events such as the NCAA Final Four, The College World Series, and the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Tournament. Scott has written several articles for Sports Spectrum magazine, which highlights the lives of Christian athletes, and has traveled with Athletes in Action Christian basketball teams around the country and world.

Scott is married to Susie, who is an Assistant Professor of Education at Huntington University. They have three children: Ashley (17), Lindsey (17) and Ryan (14).
