Russ Gunsalus
Religion & Philosophy

General Information:
Russ grew up in a Bartlesville, Oklahoma, the son of parents who were both involved in pastoral and Christian education ministry. Following conversion at an early age he made his commitment to full-time Christian service at a youth convention and was later ordained in the summer of 1992 while pastoring in the Washington, D.C., area.

Russ has also served as a youth pastor, a resident director and soccer coach at Asbury College, and in district youth leadership. He met his wife, Cindy, while working at Asbury College and they served together as "Year of Service" missionaries.

Russ is serving in the Religion and Philosophy department and teaching classes focused on youth ministry as well as general education classes in Philosophy and Bible.

Russ and Cindy live with their daughters, Krista and Kayla on Harmon Street, just a short walk from campus.


Professional Career:
Most recently Russ has served The Wesleyan Church headquarters in the Local Church Education and Youth Ministry departments. His work there involved national ministry with students, young adults, and Christian education leaders. His responsibilities were to provide leadership for Young Adults International, Fellowship of the Called, and Yes Ministries (a short-term missions ministry).


Accomplishments and Interests:
Russ was also the editor of CLCL magazine, DiscipleNet newsletter and the managing editor of the new Wesleyan commentary series. He has overseen a number of discipleship and Sunday school programs and has been heavily involved in developing Sunday school strategies and teacher training.

Russ is the co-author of A Path to Ministry: A Guide to Ministry Through Mentoring, as well the author and co-author of Short-term mission training manuals, Sunday school strategy manuals and numerous ministry-related articles.
