Dr. Constance Cherry

Dr. Constance Cherry
Associate Professor of Worship and Christian Ministries
Dr. Constance Cherry has a passion for worship and local church ministry—a combination that suits her teaching ministry at IWU very well. She joined the Division of Religion and Philosophy in 2004 where she serves as Associate Professor of Worship and Christian Ministries. In this capacity she is responsible for the new major in worship and teaches courses primarily in the fields of worship and pastoral ministry.

Dr. Cherry grew up in Michigan as a “preacher’s kid.” While a senior in college, she received a vocational call to ministry. This call was expressed for many years in full-time positions as Minister of Music/Worship, serving churches in Michigan, Ohio, and California. Having earned the Bachelor of Arts in music (Huntington University, Indiana), and the Master of Music (Bowling Green State University, Ohio), she enjoyed directing all sorts of choirs, instrumental ensembles, and praise teams pm a weekly basis. She is passionate about leading worship and helping others to lead worship.

Eventually God broadened her call to include pastoral ministry and teaching. She completed the Doctor of Ministry in Christian Worship at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1998 where she studied directly with Robert Webber. She has also served local churches as a United Methodist pastor and taught seminary full-time prior to coming to IWU.

Dr. Cherry is a published composer, author, and hymn writer. Currently, her hymns appear in five major hymnals recently published. She speaks extensively at conferences on topics related to worship, music, and ministry.

For fun, Constance likes to play the piano, travel, garden, hang out at the beach, attend concerts, and mess around with redecorating her home.
