Mathematics
If you want to be academically challenged, enhance
your critical thinking skills and have fantastic career opportunities, consider
math at IWU. One study showed that four of the six most highly rated occupations
involve mathematics or computer-related fields. In today’s world, mathematics is
used to solve practical and abstract problems in government, business, science
and engineering. A mathematics major or minor gives additional value to any
other major such as business, computer science and computer information
systems.
The Mathematics Department offers the following programs:
Mathematics Major
Math Education Major
Mathematics Minor
Statistics Minor
Purpose
The mission of the
mathematics program is to academically and spiritually prepare students of
mathematics for careers in public and private sectors, graduate study or
research. This preparation will be accomplished by providing a Christian liberal
arts curriculum incorporating a solid foundation in mathematics; technical and
computer skills; critical thinking and problem solving in logical and valid
manners; and the development of a multidisciplinary approach in integrating
faith, learning and serving others.
