 | | The
IWU Orchestra rehearses and performs in the Phillippe Performing Arts Center.
This architectural award-winning facility was opened in the summer of 1996. This
70,000-square-foot facility features a 1150-seat auditorium, a 180-seat recital
hall, and a 125-seat black box theater. | The
IWU Orchestra performs a wide range of literature, from Baroque to 20th Century,
from standard works of the orchestral repertoire to newer arrangements and transcriptions.
Concerts for the Orchestra are presented on the University campus each semester.
To encourage the participation of excellent students from a variety of academic
disciplines, Orchestra performances are arranged to minimize class conflicts.
Scholarships are available to
students majoring in Music. In addition to Music scholarships, University Orchestra
service grant money is available to qualified instrumentalists, regardless of
major field of study.
The IWU Orchestra
is open to any qualified University student based upon a brief audition. The Orchestra
rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm to 4:25pm in Room 150 of the Phillipe Performing
Arts Center. Students may enroll for 0 or 1 credit hour (MUS198). University instruments
are available for member use at no cost, and practice facilities are available
in the Performing Arts Center.
