My wife and I moved from Connecticut during August of 2006 in order that I might assume the position of Associate Professor of Music. A native of Allentown, PA, I have been privileged to serve local churches in Ohio, Illinois and Connecticut as Minister of Worship and Fine Arts. My most recent, full time ministry position was at the Noroton Presbyterian Church in Darien, CT, a suburb of New York City. During this time I also had the opportunity to teach as an Adjunct Professor at Nyack College, my alma mater.
I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance from Nyack College, Nyack, New York and my Master’s Degree in Music Education from Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio. I have completed all the course work for the Doctorate of Worship Studies degree from the Institute of Worship Studies in Jacksonville, Florida, and anticipate completing the degree in the near future.
As an arranger of choral and instrumental music, I have written for all genres of music, ranging from classical to big band, full orchestra to chamber ensemble. While in Dayton, I was able to complete commissions for the Dayton Interfaith Council and the 125-voice, Kettering Children’s Choir. My recent years in the New York City area allowed the awesome opportunity to work with several professional orchestras as well as collaborations with many Broadway musicians.
My wife, Maryann, a proud native of Brooklyn, NY, has a background in social work and theatre, and provides any creative spark I may be lacking! Our oldest daughter, Elisa Beth, is an ’04 graduate of IWU who currently works for The King’s College in Empire State Building. Our youngest, Christina, a recent graduate of Messiah College, will be teaching ESL (in Brooklyn no less!) while completing her Masters Degree at Fordham University. In addition to my love for music, I am a rabid baseball fan (Mets!) and have a passion for aviation history and classic movies!
My duties include teaching all courses related to church music, the oversight of the music used for chapel worship and direction of the 80+ voice, University Singers. My passion for music and worship in the church, encompassing all styles, was the impetus for my move from the church to the academic world. It is my hope that I can ‘pass on’ that same passion to those who desire to minister through music!
