Welcome to the Division of Health, Kinesiology, Recreation and Sports Studies...
The Division of Health, Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University prepares students to meet the ever increasing societal demands for professionals in the areas of Health Promotion and Wellness, Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation Management, Sports Management, and Coaching. The Division integrates the IWU mission statement by challenging students to develop in character, scholarship, and leadership. Each major, by it's own nature, affords the opportunity for students to display qualities of character, academic achievement, and leadership skills. A scientific foundation, theoretical exposure, and practical applications will be emphasized in each of the respective degree programs. Each academic degree program has been carefully planned and developed to prepare students for not only entry-level positions but also for future professional growth, development, and career service.
The students in the HKRSS Division are encouraged to develop in the areas of neuromuscular skills, organic fitness, social awareness, emotional balance, and spiritual growth. The emphasis on this whole person concept is a basic tenet of the division. Students are encouraged to apply their head, heart, hands, and feet, so to speak, as they develop their professional awareness and it's application to our world. Students are also encouraged to become active in professional organizations beginning in their first year. This early exposure helps the student see practicing professionals and helps them realize they can network with these professionals as their own career begins to unfold. Then can realize the many other benefits of belonging to a professional association.
Dedicated and caring are just a couple of words that describe the HKRSS Division faculty. They want to enhance the development of the whole person wherever and whenever they can. Almost every faculty member performs a dual role of teaching, coaching, and/or related assignment. This keeps the classroom and actual practice closely linked. The respective majors can benefit greatly from this first hand teaching and application. The HKRSS faculty also want to see their students give academics the highest priority. Beyond this they are very interested in the students as people. They want their majors to be confident in themselves, walk the Christian life, and experience success in their professional career choice. The relationship between student and faculty member is viewed as a sacred trust.

So whether you want to be a teacher, coach, athletic trainer, health professional, exercise specialist, recreator, or a sports manager IWU has something special for you. The goal of the HKRSS Division is to develop the professional competencies you need to meet the demands of your professional field. The course work may take various forms such as lecture, discussion, problem solving, case studies, and research. You will learn from a quality faculty, experience state of the art equipment and facilities, have access to technology, and be placed in a practical experience outside of the classroom. Regardless of the learning environment the desire is to help each one in their life long learning process. The HKRSS Division wants each one to learn and discover God's call upon their life and how He can use their area of study to fulfill that calling. Then each one can be prepared and excited about changing their world for Christ.
