Outdoor Wilderness Learning

A one-week course is offered each May Term at the All Tribes Camp on St. Joseph's Island in Ontario, Canada. The site of this camp is also referred to as the Indiana Wesleyan University's Canadian Campus.

This course is referred to as the WISE OWL. WISE OWL stands for Wesleyan ISland Experience in Outdoor Wilderness Learning.

The three main components of the course are wisdom (study of Proverbs), leadership (group dynamics) and outdoor living skills. There is also a daily session on the appreciation and work necessary to maintain and develop a camp. The class does assist in projects necessary to open the camp for the summer season.

Prior to the one-week course a planning session is held with the professor. The course is a requirement in the recreation management major and may be used as an elective in other majors.

God's creation and handiwork are experienced throughout the week. The class is considered a 24-hour, around-the-clock experience on this 100-acre wilderness.
