Dr. Fratzke earned a B.A. in History with a Physical Education minor from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas (’72). In 1973 he earned a Master of Education in Physical Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas. He then graduated from Texas A&M University Commerce on December 15, 1978 with a Doctor of Education degree. His doctoral emphasis was Physical Education administration with a secondary emphasis in Recreation. His dissertation was titled “A Comparison of Three Different Teaching Aids on the Improvement of the Forehand and Backhand Strokes among Intermediate Tennis Players”.

In the Fall of 1972 Fratzke served part-time as the Soccer Coach at LeTourneau University. In the Fall of 1973 he joined the LeTourneau faculty full time as an Instructor in Physical Education, Intramural Director, Soccer and Wrestling Coach. In the 1975-76 Academic Year he was named the Head Men’s Basketball Coach in addition to his teaching. In the Fall of 1976 during a Sabbatical year he was called upon to serve as LeTourneau’s Division Chair in Physical Education and Athletic Director. He continued his teaching and administrative roles at LeTourneau until 1984.

In May of 1984 Fratzke and his wife, Betty Jane, answered the call to come to Indiana Wesleyan University. A comprehensive athletic program and an opportunity to develop some other professional programs were attractive but the move to Marion, Indiana was a definite leading from God for the Fratzkes.

Since coming to Indiana Wesleyan University Fratzke has seen the following changes take place.

  • The addition of the Recreation Management major, the Health Promotion & Wellness major, the Sports Management major, the Sports Ministry major, the Coaching minor, the Athletic Training major, and the Exercise Science major.
  • The revision of the Physical Education major K-12, and 5-12.
  • The addition of Women’s Soccer, Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Softball, Cheer Team, and the reinstatement of Women’s Tennis.
  • The addition of the Outdoor Athletic Complex, the indoor Recreation and Wellness Center, and the indoor Sports Complex.

Dr. Fratzke believes in maintaining the balance of the sciences, theories, and practical aspects of the related fields of Physical Education. He maintains membership and is active in the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance; the Indiana Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
