Admission to the Teacher Education Program

General Information

Students may apply on one of the designated submission dates for admission to the Teacher Education Program when they have met the following requirements:

GPAs

Establish and maintain a 2.75 cum GPA and a 3.0 major GPA in each teaching area

Indiana State Licensure Tests

Pass the Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST) / Praxis 1: Reading 176, Writing 172, Mathematics 175

Math Competency

Secondary education majors and Exceptional Needs majors may meet this requirement by successfully passing/completing one of the following: the IWU Math competency exam, a math course approved for that purpose, or an approved CLEP test. Elementary education majors and Elementary Double majors must pass an approved math course with a grade of ā€˜C’ or better.

Semester Hours

Complete 29 semester hours at Indiana Wesleyan University, including 4 or more hours within the Teacher Education Program. Transfer students will be handled per case with the minimum of one semester at IWU.

Application Process

Complete and submit the Teacher Education Program application along with all required documents including the Teacher Education Program e-portfolio to the Education Office, Goodman Hall.

Applicants will be admitted the Teacher Education Program after their application materials have been reviewed and approved and upon successful completion of the interview process.
