Senior Exhibit

This exhibit should consist of the best work you have done in your university years. It should be representational, but not all-inclusive. We fully expect to see new work that has been done outside class time.

Advertising could be done in the Chronicle-Tribune, Campus Notes, Herald, your local church bulletin, WBAT and/or WMRI. Be sure your notice is printed in an attractive way when you present it for publicity. If you have a glossy photo, the Chronicle may use it. Most radio stations require that the announcement be printed on a 3x5 card. All publicity should be presented two weeks ahead of schedule. Presenting this information in person will make it more receptive to the people you are asking a favor of. Have your invitation printed well in advance.

In preparing for this special event in your life, it is required that you have everything ready at least the day before you hang your exhibit. It is like going to an exhibit in another town. You would not think of getting there and then putting things together -- so the day before your exhibit is not for assembling and matting. Everything should be ready to hang! There will be enough things to do that day, with the hanging and preparing of the serving area, to keep you busy.

A key to the gallery and glass case will be issued to you through our art secretary and returned at the end of your exhibit.

On the day before the hanging, you will be given a box with the appropriate hanging hooks for the walls. If more are needed, let your art faculty know before that date.

Do not hang or post anything on the wall directly inside the gallery entrance by the light switches and thermostat. Only hang pieces where there is wall carpet.

The pedestals are very heavy, so do take great care in moving them. Anything placed on the pedestals must have a pad under it. Scratching is a real problem. Each pedestal costs us $100. You are responsible for their care when you move or use them.

We recommend that you have your work priced with a list on the wall or with tags beside your pieces. If people want to purchase on the opening day, that is fine, but they should not be allowed to take the work until the end of the exhibit.

The little prep kitchen is off the lobby for your use. A table may be set up in the lobby area. Please try to let your guests know that they are not to take drinks into the gallery area. The kitchen is to be totally cleaned and the lobby returned to the order in which you found it. Please do not rearrange the furniture, plants, etc. in the lobby. The chrome chairs are not to be placed on the tile floor in the lobby at any time. If they are not wanted during the exhibit, the office is to be informed the day before the hanging of the exhibit.

Refreshments are of your own choosing. Keep them simple. Do not worry if you run out of food.

It is wise for you to be around during that week when people come, because they do like to talk to the artist.
