Art Division Faculty

As an Art major, you will be mentored by professors who have exhibited their work in major galleries, developed ad campaigns for national clients, won national awards and worked in the art community as photographers, graphic designers, art directors and illustrators. For example, you might be surprised to know that Professor Ron Mazellan illustrated a book, The Longest Season, written by Baltimore Orioles legend Cal Ripken, Jr., which made the New York Times bestseller list in 2007. Or that professor Rod Crossman was selected by the National Park Service to serve a year as artist-in-residence at Rocky Mountain National Park. Galleries in New York, Atlanta, Colorado and Washington D.C. sell his work and his paintings have been featured in national and international publications around the world. Professor Dallas Walters was selected as an emerging artist by Kodak’s Qualex division and continues to exhibit in national shows and galleries. Professor Bill Goodman has large-scale ceramic installations on exhibition the at University of California Irvine, Central Mesabi Medical Center in Minnesota, First Bank of Madison Wisconsin, as well as Domex Corporation and Hibbing Community College. Professor Rob Curfman has traveled to six of the seven continents photographing the lands and people throughout the world as a documentary photographer. His work can be found in many public and private collections throughout the United States.
All the same, IWU art professors believe that their calling is serving God by serving students who seek to bring creative order out of the chaos of modern culture. In the spirit of Genesis 1, IWU faculty are co-creators with God and partners with you as you aspire to the Holy calling of the artist.
