Why chemistry?
I really enjoyed science as a kid. I
wanted to become a scientist and
discover new things about how the
universe works. I have had interests in
astronomy, engineering, and chemistry,
but I was blessed with having excellent
chemistry teachers in both High
School and college. Their excitement
about the subject was infective. I also
like the charming glassware and instrumentation
associated with chemistry!
Which classes do you teach?
Organic Chemistry I and II
Biological Chemistry I
Chemistry and Artists’ Colors
Inorganic Chemistry
Research in Chemistry
How does your faith affect what you do?
It drives me to try my best at all times.
My overall goal is that my students
become more like what God wants
them to be. To the extent that I can do
the will of God and be a positive influence
on my students then I have been
successful.
What is your goal for your students?
Have them become as well prepared
for their careers as possible. This
will give them credibility in the
marketplace and impact the world in a
positive way.
What do you enjoy about IWU?
It is a school that intentionally tries to
serve Christ. It attracts students that
are interested in making an impact for
Christ in missions and the marketplace.
How long have you taught at IWU?
10 years.
What is your favorite course to teach?
Organic Chemistry, but this has a lot to
do with the students in each class.
What are your research interests?
New anti-malarial drugs based upon
the antibiotic fosmidomycin.
